LINCOLN PARK ( 23 Aug., 2008 ) – Today I ran the farthest distance I ever have in my life. I not only crossed over the half-way point in terms of marathon distance, but blew past it to run a total of 16 miles!

Today was a good run…
I got some decent sun, there was some wind despite the humidity, and I had a good running-mate to chat with along the way. You can tell the Marathon isn’t too far out because the Lakefront Path seems to get more crowded with runners, week by week. Although I don’t do my long runs with my iPod, I had the Theme from Rocky stuck in my head for most of the morning… hence the YouTube homage to Mr. Balboa above. And yes, I know he was a boxer, but the spirit transcends.

… although I hit the wall.
Given that I’m still making up for lost time from my foot sprain, I decided to drop down a pace group (from 9:00 to 9:30) for this one run – a decision that proved to be brilliant because I hit my wall at mile 15, around Addison St., with a mile left to go. I persevered, but let’s just say that I was very glad to see Montrose Beach (the terminus of today’s run).

Back in the District this past week.
I spent most of the past week in Washington, DC for work. Although I was pretty busy, I was able to get an abridged version of my usual run along the National Mall in on Wednesday, in-between finalizing a work presentation and dinner in Chinatown with my preschool / grade school / fellow intern at 5/3 friend, Marie. Only Lafayette Square, the White House, the Treasury and the Washington Monument in on that run.

Onward and Upward.
Labor Day Weekend, next weekend, is set to be one of my running-est weekends ever. It’s a drop-back week with CARA on Saturday – only 12 miles, and then I’m running the Nike+ Human Race 10K on Sunday evening. In the meantime, I have two feet full of blisters to care for.

The Chicago Half Marathon registration site is also open on my computer right now too… debating about doing it since it falls during a 14 mile drop-back week in September. I think I can suffice without the extra .9 miles.

Only another 10 more miles to run concurrently before I can call it a marathon.

Good times.
